VegfestUK Bristol is renowned not only for its eclectic collection of vegan caterers, produce, talks and cookery demos, but also of course for its headliners and entertainers down the years. And the upcoming redeveloped event at Ashton Gate on May 26-27 will be no different, with a series of captivating acoustic acts and DJ’s already lined up for a cracking weekend at the home stadium of Bristol City football and rugby clubs.

In our first blog on musical lineups, we take a look at the Dance Stage for 2018.

Judge Jules is one DJ that has been there, done that and done it all again, and for almost three decades Judge Jules has led the way in the world of dance music. Since hitting the decks in 1987, Judge Jules has influenced an entire generation on Kiss FM and Radio 1 and continues to be on the playlists of millions with his weekly radio show The Global Warm Up, which notches up 750,000 downloads every single week via his podcast and is broadcast on over 80 stations around the world.

Mobo award winner and dance sensation Baby D is one of the UK & Europe’s Biggest dance success, with more than a million single sales worldwide and a chart topping #4 debut album ‘Deliverance’, 4 top hit singles “I need your loving (Everybody’s gotta learn sometime)”, ‘So Pure’, ‘Take me to heaven’ and the no.1 hit ‘Let me be your fantasy’

‘Let me be your fantasy’ stayed in the national charts for over 2 years and sold over in excess of 400,000 copies in its 1st week of release alone and peaked at the no.1 national chart position for 2 weeks on 24th Nov 1994.

Miranda Rae is currently a TV and Radio presenter voice-over artist, narrator and compere on SoulTrain Radio. From BBC Radio 5 Broadcaster to TV presenter, from mainstream commercial radio to Head of Specialist Programmes for Galaxy Radio, club DJ and music specialist to newspaper columnist, Miranda Rae certainly has more strings to her bow than most. From her teenage years, Miranda has been involved in the music and media industries and has come a long way, highlighted by winning The Sony Radio Award.

Further quality DJ’s from SoulTrain Radio include: Tristan B, Paul Conroy and Paul Alexander.

Tristan B started his DJ career in Cornwall in 1976 at the height of the original disco boom. He became a resident DJ in his first nightclub in 1979 at the age of 16. In the mid 80’s he moved to Bristol and was soon DJing in some of the cities most iconic clubs including: ‘The Studio’, ‘Pappions’, ‘The Parkside’, ‘Wedgies’, ‘Buzbys’, ‘Vadims’, Poo Na Na and ‘Lakota’. He was also one of the first DJ’s to play at superclub ‘Motion’.

Join the Club Yeyo Saturday daytime session on the Dance Stage near the entrance, with original Club Yeyo/XXX Posse DJ Chris Cross and VegfestUK presenter Karin Ridgers creating a fun-filled afternoon of music, interviews, special guests and novelty acts alongside some eclectic old school house cuts, a punk half hour and other genres, a live performance at 2pm from One Man and His Beard, and capped with a headline performance at 6pm from Ibiza legend Judge Jules.

One Man and His Beard will be presenting a mixture of Dance/Punk music at the event. They have written the Vegfest anthem “Come On Down To Vegfest “in 2015 (https://soundcloud.com/onemanandhisbeard/come-on-down-to-vegfest) and played Brighton Vegfest in 2015 and 2016. 2018 looks like an interesting year with many animal campaigns gathering pace and a new double A-side single will be released in June with no doubt more videos to come!

Mark Stewart has been performing as Elton John since 2010. Capturing Elton’s epic showmanship, powerful vocals and stomping piano-playing, Mark brings you all the greatest hits of this pop music icon, with classics such as ‘Rocket Man’, ‘Crocodile Rock’ and ‘Candle in the Wind’, plus many more you never knew you knew! Transcending generations, Elton’s songs are sure to get you singing, dancing and swaying along; delivered by Mark with true conviction and gusto, as well as plenty of light-hearted banter in between. More than just a tribute act, The Elton John Experience is a homage to one of the most unique and enduring forces in entertainment; high-energy, nostalgic and fun for all the family!

Mark Devlin is a UK-based club and radio DJ, music journalist and author, specialising in R&B, soul, hip-hop and other forms of black music. His big radio break was on Galaxy 101 in Bristol in 1996, where he presented the Friday night urban show, The Swing Shift. His current radio venture is The Sound Of Now on First Radio in Oxford, (which streams live Saturdays 6-8pm GMT at www.firstfm.uk) He has been a vegetarian for the past 30 years, and a vegan for the past five.

Chris Tofu is a maverick Dj out of East London, DJ’ing since 1995, from enormous stages to street corners, across the world. Chris started Dj’ing almost in reaction to the insanely obsessive DJ culture around early Techno and Drum and Bass. He just felt that DJ’ing was as much about “vibe” and talking to an audience as endless technical skills. For Tofu, if you’re not “inside” the tune don’t play it.

With “rockets burning fuel so fast”, The Supanauts, with authentic renditions of all the great tracks from their first 6 albums, bring the power and the glory of the original heavy rock band, Black Sabbath. The Supanauts bring all their experience from years of treading the boards with bands such as The Groundhogs, at festivals such as Glastonbury and Edinburgh in the UK, Roadburn in Holland, the Classic Legends of Rock Tour with Wishbone Ash and Focus to recording with illuminati such as Steve Vai, to bring you a totally faithful and powerful tribute to the fathers of Heavy Rock and Metal, Black Sabbath. They “want to reach out, and touch the sky, reach out and touch the sun but they don’t need to fly to climb the Mountains of the Moon”.

Juha began as a hip-hop crew in Hawaii, and is now a London-based sonic stewpot… Or “The sound of Prince and Manu Chao kissing on a dance floor,” as they say.  While song topics range from the refugee crisis to mental health to the lives of other animals on this planet, Juha always manages to add good ol’ fashioned sleaze into the mix.  And the Juha mission is that when you’ve exited the show, you’re a little bit more in Love with yourself than when ya’ came in.
