VGN hosts Climate Summit at VegfestUK London 2019

13th September 2019

The imminence of climate change and global warming necessitates immediate action from governments, organisations and individuals. But realistically what actions should one take to alleviate the issue? Given the impact of livestock farming on the climate especially, what are the most effective vegan solutions to climate change?

With this in mind, VGN will host the VGN Climate Summit on the Sunday part of the 7th year annual vegan consumer event VegfestUK London at Olympia London on October 26-27, with the aim of offering a number of vegan solutions to climate change at grassroots level.

Confirmed sessions

The Earth is Burning: The Global Environmental Impact of Animal Agriculture (Dr. Tushar Mehta) – We are exposed to increasing information about the environmental benefits of plant based foods, as well as contradictory messages. In this lecture, Dr. Mehta will review the fundamental reasons why animal agriculture has a detrimental impact, and the science that quantifies the impact. Climate change, biodiversity loss, food security and other key parameters will be reviewed, including recent literature from the UNEPA and Lancet journal which is revolutionizing the worldwide discussion.

‘Your Food, Your Clothes, Your Future’ (panel) – The IPCC report that was leaked in August indicates that transitioning to a plant-based diet is integral to saving ourselves from extinction, and the Amazon rainforest is being burned to the last tree primarily for cattle. So VGN has invited some of the top innovators in food, fashion, education, and personal care for a two-part discussion about where the science actually lies, how to live sustainably, whether or not over-population is a myth, and how social psychologists are dealing with the increasing prevalence of climate despair.

Planet Vegan film screening – Come watch the first in a five-part documentary series taking a deep dive into the fastest growing social justice movement of the 21st century. The series will act as a welcoming and non-judgemental platform to educate the public on why millions of people are making a change in their habits for the betterment of the animals, the planet, and their own health. Top names featured in Season One include Rich Roll, PETA, Dr. Michael Greger, James Aspey, Beyond Meat, Earthling Ed, Jon Venus and many, many more! Introduce your non-vegan and vegan curious friends and family members to the importance of living vegan through this compelling series.

A full lineup of speakers will be released in October.

The VGN Climate Summit is located in the Auditorium on Level 3 of Olympia Central (i.e. Olympia Conference Centre) – visit the floor plan for Level 3 here.
