Bute Island – Specialists In Vegan Cheese

12th August 2020

Ahead of VegfestUK Summerfest Online 2020 this weekend, show sponsors and long-time friends Bute Island Foods ltd tell us a little about the brand, where Bute Island has come from and where it’s headed as the boom in veganism continues.

“It has always been at the heart of our business ethos to be at the forefront of innovation and quality, and with 32 years of experience behind us, this really shows. As specialists in vegan cheese, we provide the very best dairy-free products available on the market today, promoting the benefits of an animal-free diet to as wide an audience as possible, and of course showcasing the beautiful island where we are based.

Over the last few years, we’ve added a series of new and exciting products to join our award-winning range which include: Cheddar style with Garlic & Chives, Cheddar style with Jalapeno and Chilli, the Smoked German style (Q Awards Gold Winner 2018) and Blue French style (with a “blue veins” effect). Naturally there’s plenty more delicious products to come, so do watch this space!

We keep true to our principles, and ensure that our products are inclusive rather than “exclusive”, so any consumer can enjoy our range, not simply those who are dedicated to a plant-based and dairy-free lifestyle.  We have therefore gone to great lengths to ensure that our produce is as close to traditional cheese varieties as possible, in texture and flavour. Our ethically-sourced ingredients adhere to our core values, and are all non-GMO.

As more and more stories appear in the media show-casing the health benefits of a vegan diet, along with rising concern over the welfare of animals and the effects on the environment coming to public attention, the number of vegans across all demographics has increased dramatically over the last couple of years.

Here in the U.K. alone, Papa John’s Pizza has launched a vegan menu consisting of types of Sheese pizza using among other flavours, our Mild Cheddar, (a Sheese that won a Free-From Gold Award in 2018), and three vegan side dishes and are proving massively popular. For us, this is very exciting indeed, as well as other companies bringing numerous desserts and ready meals to market, using products such as our Creamy Sheese, many of which are now available in the supermarkets.

Our investment back into the business and its expanding premises, along with an absolute focus on innovation, provides confidence through experience to our retailers and consumers alike, and can only be a huge positive for the Scottish island community that we are privileged to call home.”
