We are more than thrilled to welcome Omowale Adewale back to VegfestUK, on Sunday 4pm January 31st as part of our Activists focus.
Omowale is of course founder of the famed Black Vegfest in New York USA, as well as being an accomplished author, kickboxer, family man and community leader. Omowale has a new book out in February, and is joining us for an hour to talk about a few of the aspects featured in the book as well as some topical news from the heart of New York City, freshly into a new presidential era.
We asked Omowale a few questions before he joins us.
Hey Omowale, thanks for joining us – first question, the all important one – When’s the book out?
And how did the book come about?
Brotha Vegan is the literary companion to Sistah Vegan which debuted 2010. LPM and Breeze thought I would be helpful in adding perspective to a focus on Black men. They asked and I humbly accepted the task of putting together a team of excellent Brothers who have been contributing to the growth and awareness of veganism for years.
There’s some fantastic guests in the book – who else is in it?
Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, Fred “Doc” Beasley, chef Bryant Terry, physicians Anteneh Roba and Milton Mills, DJ Cavem, Stic of Dead Prez, Kimatni Rawlins, Kevin Jenkins, Torre Washington and many others
The book is published by the famous Lantern Publishers – tell us a little more about them
From a writer and editor’s perspective LPM is a supportive team giving voice to unapologetically radical social justice narratives that aim to change and shift the conversation that include liberation for non-human animals.
What else are we covering in the talk on Sunday Jan 31st?
Whatever VegfestUK is interested in discussing I’m available to answer. I’m discussing a planet that’s radically compassionate and invested in liberation.
Where can I get the book?
Brotha Vegan can be purchased directly from me to support frontline activists but it’s available at major bookstores.
Make sure you catch Omowale’s livestream this Sunday 31st January at 4:00PM GMT as part of VegfestUK Online January 2021. You can catch all of the livestreams over the weekend on the VegfestUK Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and website.
