Alistair Stewart

Lead Coordinator, Plant-Based Universities

Having grown up in London, Alistair studied linguistics at the University of Cambridge for his undergraduate degree before spending four and a half years as an officer in the British Army. He went vegan on leaving the army in 2022 and began a master’s degree in political science and ethics at University College London where he became involved in animal rights advocacy and activism, writing his master’s dissertation on open rescue.

Alistair joined the Plant-Based Universities core team in September 2023 as a regional coordinator and social media coordinator, and took over the role of lead coordinator in March 2024. A few aspects of the campaign particularly inspire him, including the disruptive nature of the call for 100% plant-based university catering, the scope to harness the reach and momentum of the climate movement, and the long-term community-building and -influencing impact that PBU is already having.

Alongside animal liberation, Alistair has interests in sentience-focused ethics, social change and artificial intelligence risk.
