British Writer and Academic

Dr Alex Lockwood is a British writer and academic. His book The Pig in Thin Air explores the relationship between climate change and the food we eat, and his scholarship on vegan lifestyles and plant-based food systems was internationally recognised at COP26. In 2019 he was a founding member of Animal Rebellion, and shaped the narrative for their recent summer campaign against the animal exploitation industries, including the front-page headlines for disruption of the Grand National. He has written for The Guardian, The Independent, Plant Based News, Sentient Media, appears as a spokesperson on TV and radio, and worked with the teams behind SeaSpiracy, Milked! and other high profile films.

Gathering Our Movement Around a Shared Story

A number of groups across the vegan, animal rights and climate movements have recently worked to join forces around campaigns and demands to show a stronger and more united front in the face of organised opposition to our goals. This talk goes through some of these examples, asks whether or not it is possible for so many different groups to say the same thing, and shows why the power of stories is our key tool in bringing an end to animal suffering and to tackle climate inaction.
