Lindsay Marshall

Scientist

Lindsay Marshall completed her PhD in cell physiology at Dundee Medical School in Scotland. Her research throughout her subsequent academic career focused on developing multi-cellular, in vitro models of human airways, and applying these to study the inflammatory pathways in response to infection in healthy lungs, and in respiratory diseases, including cystic fibrosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma.

Marshall left academia in 2016 and is now Director of Science for animal research issues in the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). Her overarching goal in this post is the encouragement of animal replacement in biomedical research and drug testing and she is specifically involved in identifying alternatives to animal models for investigating human disease mechanisms and treatments.

Bringing an End to Animal Testing

This panel will provide an overview of the current situation regarding animal experiments in Great Britain and globally. Looking to a future without animal experiments, the panel will discuss the different areas where animals are experimented upon and look at the ‘alternatives‘ (non-animal new approach methodologies – NAMs), the possible barriers to NAMs use and a future without animal experiments.

The four panellists all have many years of experience and knowledge of this important area of animal harm and exploitation and will each bring a unique perspective on this topic. Please join us as we discuss how we can truly ‘bring an end to animal testing’ with your support.

Following the panel, at 1.45 there will be a short update from Camp Beagle, with Sole Iriart.

Takeaways

”To look at the issue of animal experiments, from multiple viewpoints, to expedite an end to ALL animal experiments”
