Miss Hart, The Vegan Taxidermist, is a manipulator of fabrics and traditional techniques, devotedly hand-tailoring sculptures that play with the contradictions between dark, morbid, unethical curiosities, and humane, vegan, environmentally sustainable materials. She wanders and wonders between ‘Joie de vivre’ (joy of living) and ‘Memento Mori’ (death is inevitable) sometimes asking questions of the viewer, and sometimes being answerable only to herself. In a never ending campaign for needlework to be recognised as an art form, Beth’s soft sculptures are very much ‘a woman’s work’ with the craft of sewing being passed down from her foremothers.
