The Vegan Society is a registered, educational charity and membership organisation that is working tirelessly to make veganism an easily adopted and widely recognised approach to reducing animal suffering and environmental damage. We do so through peaceful and factual dialogue with individuals, organisation and businesses. You can find out more about the society and its achievements in our most recent Impact Report.
This November sees the 80th anniversary of the founding of The Vegan Society in 1944, when the society had just 25 members. Our first members chose the word ‘vegan’ to describe their diet and lifestyle. We are enormously proud of the movement that we inspired as the original Vegan Society.
As we celebrate our first 80 years and, with the launch of a new campaign ‘The Future is Vegan’, we look forward to our next 80 years, we want to thank our members, supporters, Ambassadors, Vegan Trademark clients, donors, legators and everyone who has helped in our first 80 years and is cheering us on. We also want to ask for your continued support. Veganism has come a long way in a short time compared to many movements that advocate such a radical lifestyle change, but most people still eat animal products, still use animal products, still wear animal products and still believe that non-human animals are there for the convenience of human animals.

During our anniversary year we will be celebrating our roots and looking forward to the vegan future that we hope to help to create. There will be opportunities for you to celebrate with us both online and in person.
