Animal Welfare Party stands candidates in local and parliamentary elections in the UK. 2024 has seen us stand in elections for the Mayor of London, the London Assembly and in the General Election.
We believe it’s vitally important that animal and environmental issues are included in the political debate. With our first AWP councillor gained in 2017 in Alsager, Cheshire and our second this year in Hexham, Northumberland, we believe there is a growing appetite for policies and representation aimed at creating a fairer, more sustainable world for all.
This workshop is aimed at those who are interested in the idea of standing as a candidate for Animal Welfare Party in an upcoming election. It will look at how to express interest in being a candidate, what’s involved and what can be expected from the experience overall. We are always keen to hear from prospective candidates and all are very welcome.

We know that the transition to a plant-based food system will require institutional change. But which institutions are most open to change? How is change best achieved? How can we guarantee that any change will last?
In this workshop, Jack (Plant-Based Councils) and Orin (Plant-Based Universities) will explore some of the key questions that need to be addressed when campaigning for plant-based commitments in institutions. In doing so, participants will be encouraged to identify which institutions they are best placed to make change within, and will be guided in developing their own toolkit for enacting this change.

Join TEDx Speaker Stuart Evans for an engaging workshop where we will explore various theoretical frameworks that can help us to understand and combat animal oppression. The workshop will examine how power and inequality shape our society, how social and economic structures influence our beliefs and behaviors, and how learning from perspectives that prioritise marginalised voices can aid in the ideology of total liberation.
By connecting the struggles for animal rights, human rights, and environmental justice, we will highlight the importance of multidimensional liberation in the abolition of oppression. This session aims to demonstrate how these ideas can be applied to foster a more just and compassionate world for all beings. Ideal for anyone committed to making a positive impact in the AR movement!
