‘Pet’ animals are among the most abused and exploited animals on earth – but they remain a seriously underrepresented topic in the vegan movement. This talk will delve into the reality of what happens to animals who are bred and sold as pets – and show the audience how they can get involved in advocating for them.

A history of the HSA, the worlds longest surviving direct action organisation and was part of the birth of the current animal rights/liberation movement. Staring in 1963, before the term animal liberation was formulated the HSA has been (and continues to be) at the forefront of the struggle for animals.

Why We Need to Love Pigeons – Sue Joyce – Little Green Pigeons

Sue begins by helping the audience understand the different types of pigeons found in the UK — distinguishing between wild and domestic birds. She invites light audience participation with a bit of fun, encouraging everyone to try mimicking pigeon coos and calls.

Jazz is a campaigner with Viva! whose undercover investigations have exposed the realities of animal agriculture, including conditions inside pig and egg-laying hen facilities. He played a key role in shaping Viva!’s Break Free, pig, and egg campaigns, translating raw investigation findings into powerful public advocacy.
Beyond UK campaigns, Jazz serves as a project executive on Viva! Uganda’s Gorilla Defenders initiative, working to protect endangered mountain gorillas in the wild.
Jazz is an experienced speaker who challenges, energises, and inspires his audience.

This fireside chat explores how culture, creativity and punk ethics can amplify undercover investigations and reach audiences beyond traditional campaigning. Drawing on four decades of investigative work and Industry Standard, a vinyl album built from covert field recordings, it reflects on why cultural resistance matters alongside evidence, policy and campaigns.

“Born On Death Row” is an animal testing documentary currently being made by Fiaz & Jacqui from The Base Vegan Retreat and Animal Sanctuary in Bristol.

Their journey into the world of industrial-scale breeding of beagle puppies for toxicology testing and experiments, combined with their first-hand experience in animal rescue and campaigning, and their creative backgrounds, places them in a unique position to tell this important story with passion — aiming to both educate and activate its audience.

As first-time filmmakers, just over a year into production, they have completed three US filming trips interviewing Moby, Dr Alka Chandna, Ridglan Farms whistleblower Scott Gilbertson and local campaign leads — including literally in the trenches at Ridglan Farms itself amid tear gas, pepper spray and rubber bullets, and survivor dogs including Otis. In the UK, they have filmed Mel Broughton, Wayne Hsiung, Rose Patterson, Professor Andrew Knight, Camp Beagle and others in the field.

With powerful survivor stories, keeping the animals’ experience at its centre, they are now shaping the narrative arc, deepening the research, and questioning the scientific division and inherent secrecy behind the story.
